10 Alternative Rock Music Videos You've Never Seen

3. In One Ear - Cage The Elephant

Towards the end of the 2000s, indie rock was becoming stale. Kings Of Leon were morphing into arena pop-rock stars; the Libertines were soon to embark on their first half-arsed reunion tour; and Nickelback had just released their fifth studio album, Darkhorse (shudder). But salvation came from a little known group of garage rockers from Kentucky.

Their second single was a riot of gritty guitar chords, blues-inspired licks and pumping bass lines. Matt Shultz's lyrics were just the kind of anti-authoritarian outbursts you needed during your teens. Sure, the song was riddled with rock n' roll clichés, but it was played with such a visceral dedication, you were willing to forgive them.

There's a total of three videos for this particular track. In 2010, the group rereleased the single, along with a fresh vid, that showed the boys playing in an abandoned junk yard; it was a fairly uninspired effort. The video most will be familiar with, was made specifically for the UK release back in 2008.

But the original US version was the most faithful to the group's ethos. In a packed out dive bare, they play amongst the crowd with all the energy the song deserves. If you want to know what Cage The Elephant are about, short of seeing them live, then here you go.
