10 Amazing Albums That Will Make You Love Pop Punk Music
6. Riot! - Paramore
During the mid '00s, the first era of pop punk was starting to dwindle a little bit. Blink-182 had long since gone on hiatus, and Sum 41 had started to go in a much heavier direction that didn't even feel like pop punk anymore. We needed some fresh blood in the scene, and Paramore came out ready for war on Riot!.
Granted, it's a little bit difficult to talk about Paramore as pop punk, considering how much they've done to distance themselves from it on projects like After Laughter. On this record though, Hayley Williams was setting herself up to be the New Queen of Pop Punk after Avril Lavigne, with a vocal range that most others wouldn't dare to take on. While vocal prowess was never really a necessity in this genre, these are the kind of songs that are borderline impossible to do justice, as Williams doesn't sacrifice any power when going through songs like Misery Business.
This album is more than just raw power though, and you can hear them tapping into their emotional side, being sarcastic one minute on a song like Fences and then just struggling to keep their head above water on tracks like We Are Broken or Let The Flames Begin. Yes, we may seem broken right now, but that doesn't mean that we can't try to put ourselves back together at some point.
