10 Amazing Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear

7. Eros - Deftones

By the mid '00s, Deftones were pretty adrift from each other. Coming off of one of the hardest albums they ever had to make with Saturday Night Wrist, everyone was finding it hard to get back on the same page when going into the next album, tentatively titled Eros. Just as things were about to get underway though, tragedy struck the very heart of these nu metal legends.

In the middle of recording sessions, bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a horrible car accident that left him in a coma for the indefinite future. While this initially held up the album's release, the band couldn't really find a way to continue on making an album without the core members involved in it. No matter how much of themselves they put into the record, there was no possible way to divorce the songs from the memory of Chi still in the hospital.

Choosing to move forward, Chino Moreno decided to start from scratch on Diamond Eyes, which became one of the highlights of Deftones' later material off the strength of songs like You've Seen the Butcher and Rocket Skates. Though Cheng would ultimately succumb to his injuries and be replaced with Sergio Vega later down the line, Eros remains the last creative contributions he ever made to the Radiohead of metal.
