10 Awesome Albums Made Entirely Of Outtakes
5. Lost Dogs - Pearl Jam
After Pearl Jam blew up at the start of the 90's with their groundbreaking album Ten, Eddie Vedder almost immediately became uncomfortable with his success. Though subsequent Pearl Jam records still had some great slices of rock, Vedder always tried to venture into more experimental territories to try to shake off the trappings of his newfound fame.
Ironically enough, most of the more commercial material the band would come up with would eventually surface on Lost Dogs, which compiled all the best charity singles and B-sides the band had been working on. Across 2 discs, this album has some of the more mellow sides of the band like the freewheeling tunesfest of "Down" to the band's beloved B-side "Yellow Ledbetter." The album also features the forgotten outtake "Footsteps," which wraps up the initial MamaSon trilogy Vedder had written in the early days of the band.
While there are some more zany moments like "Gremmie Out Of Control" and "Dirty Frank," the album also features one of the band's most celebrated covers with their take on the 50's classic "Last Kiss." Vedder may have steered the band down more experimental roads, but Lost Dogs is a great insight into the band's more mainstream offerings.
