10 Awesome Supergroups We Never Got To See

9. Judas Sabbath

Although the debate of the origins of heavy metal are older than the genre itself, most fans can't argue that Black Sabbath deserve a lot of the credit as the first metal band. Compared to the more bluesy iterations before them, the menacing riffs of Tony Iommi playing off of Ozzy Osbourne unknowingly wrote the book on how metal is supposed to sound. On the rare occasion though, there was a good possibility of Sabbath having an even more legendary vocalist.

When Sabbath were originally asked to play Ozzfest with Ronnie James Dio, the vocalist's initial refusal to play resulted in Judas Priest's Rob Halford taking the reins. Though the show itself came together with a bit of an audible thud, it started the wheels turning in fans' minds as to what a Priest-led Sabbath would have looked like. Since Rob's voice always lent itself to some high-pitched screams, it practically feels like the best of both worlds going from the searing vocals to Iommi's detuned riffs.

As of today though, the future for this happening seems more and more uncertain, with Sabbath themselves deciding to call it a career in the past few years. If Iommi is down for doing anything later down the line however, it might be time to give the old Sabbath tunes the metallic christening that they truly deserve.
