10 Bafflingly Terrible Songs That Were Somehow Incredibly Successful
5. Gummibar - I'm A Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song)
You might be wondering to yourself: what came first, The Gummy Bear Song or the band name that's clearly another reference to gummy bears? Well, sit back and allow me to educate you. Gummibar are a virtual band who basically perform exclusively gummy confectionary related songs. Yeah...that's a thing.
I'm A Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song) was released in 2007. It first dropped in Hungary, where it spent a mind-blowing eight months at number one. Since then the song has broken into the charts of many countries around the world including Canada, Japan, Germany and Greece (where again it hit number one).
To try and describe how terrible the song is would be rather redundant, but you can imagine the quality of a tune that centres on gummy bears. Think along the lines of Crazy Frog and you're getting there. As of 2007 it's estimated that the song has been played more than one billion times. Yes, I said billion.
