10 Bands And Artists Who Pass The Five Album Test
9. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Having been active for almost forty years and subject to consistent line up changes, it’s fair to say the Bad Seeds have been through multiple phases. They began life as a searing post-punk band, with many members (including Cave) held over from the raucous Birthday Party.
The music was often great, but the records weren’t always entirely coherent. Their first truly great run of albums starts with 1992’s Henry’s Dream, through to 2001’s No More Shall We Part. Here we see the band truly evolve, with Cave gradually ironing out his snarl, the heartbreaking and personal The Boatman’s Call remaining their artistic high point for many fans.
After falling off a little with Nocturama, the band embarked on another hot streak from 2004, which still goes on today. They met the five album mark with 2019’s Ghosteen, capping an era in which the Seeds’ music has become increasingly electronic and downbeat, in line with Cave’s personal circumstances of recent years.
For a decades-old band comprising mostly of grizzled Australian blokes, they’re capable of remarkable growth and evolution to this day.
