10 Bands That Made The Same Album Over Again

8. Van Halen

The first Van Halen album is one of the few things in the rock genre that could almost be considered perfect. Although it did inadvertently give us some crappy hair bands out of the deal, the amount of concentrated kickass for a debut is still one of the most impressive feats any band can hope to pull off. It would seem that the record company agreed too, so they decided to just do the whole thing again.

Make no mistake, Van Halen is not a one trick pony, and yet Van Halen II tends to feel like more of the same when compared to their first record. From the little lead breaks that Eddie sprinkles throughout the album to the party jams like Bottoms Up being the main sellers for the record, a lot of this album just reads like they were trying to capture the performance of their show the second time around, only with spottier results.

It still has its bright spots though (I mean, it's a Van Halen record), with Dance the Night Away being considered one of their more celebrated deep cuts and Beautiful Girls being a nice little delve into the boogie woogie side of rock and roll. Although Van Halen II isn't a bad album, it might give you the wrong impression if you decide to use this as your introduction to the band.
