10 Best Debut Albums From Indie Bands

1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

It would be an insult not to include The Stone Roses self titled debut album. Released in 1989 The Stone Roses revolutionised indie music. The album was the soundtrack of the Madchester sub culture scene, with their bucket hats and baggy clothes The Stone Roses were instrumental in the lives of so many Mancunian kids and beyond. With their debut album often being named as the best debut album of all time and one of the greatest British albums ever recorded The Stone Roses holds a special place in British music history.

The band saw great success with this album and it's easy to see why. With each member of the band being a master of their craft the songs are utter masterpieces. The intricate drum beats Reni pulls off with ease, Squire's delicate finger picking, Mani's deep base and Browns enigmatically haunting vocals each and every song on the album is textured, meaningful and mesmerising to listen to. The albums mix of psychedelia with indie creates an oddly trippy listening experience, unique from other albums of the time.

Releasing just two studio albums in their lifetime as a band, their limited discography still managed to make them one of the most well known British bands of all time. Their 1990 concert at Spike Island is one of the most well known concerts ever held. They played to approximately an enormous 28,000 people, four years before the release of their second album, showing the true greatness of their debut album.
