4. F**k Wit Dre Day (And Everybody's Celebratin') - Dr. Dre (1993)
The Chronic was an album that established Dre's signature '90s sound. Rap bars aside, the production techniques came to embody West Coast hip hop. Stick this on, and there's no mistaking what era of hip hop you're listening to. What N.W.A. had started only continued on The Chronic.
Dre Day was the metaphorical bullet fired at Dre's former group mate Eazy-E. The fall out from the N.W.A. breakup resulted in West Coast animosity between Death Row and Ruthless Records. Eazy-E had burned his bridges with his former group mates, doing them out of a significant portion of their royalties.
Dre, augmented by the slinky stylising of Snoop Dogg, took fire at Eazy, accusing him of turning his back on the streets by teaming up with Jerry Heller. But E wasn't the only rapper to feel the wraith of Dre. Ice Cube was mentioned in all but name. Dre made a number of references to Cube's hometown and his new record label. Although neither Snoop nor Dre ever made elicit threats to Cube, the implication was certainly noted.
