10 Best Final Albums In Rock

1. Abbey Road - The Beatles

Once they excited the world, it seemed the Beatles would be together until the end of time. However, the good times were not meant to last, as the band members became increasingly fed up with their lack of artistic freedom. After a failure to return to their roots on the Get Back project, (which would later become Let It Be) the Fab Four reassembled with producer George Martin to create a really special album.

As such, Abbey Road was by far the greatest artistic statement the Beatles had ever committed to tape. John Lennon is at his most funky and caustic on "Come Together" and "I Want You," while McCartney brings pop rockers on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and "Oh! Darling." The real star of the album is George Harrison, whose songwriting on "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" shines like fine-cut jewelry.

To close out the album, the band takes various song fragments from each writer and sticks them together to create a 20-minute epic that foreshadowed the operatic potential of rock music. With the final line, "the love you take is equal to the love you make," The Beatles put the ultimate cherry on top of the greatest run of albums ever released by a rock band.
