10 Best Final Albums In Rock

8. Mezmerize/Hypnotize - System Of A Down

System of a Down had been riding the nu-metal wave with ease during the 2000's, but life had gotten too easy. It was time for the band to hunker down and deliver a really special record for the fans. As such, twin albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize (released months apart) were incredible slices of hard rock.

From the start of the first rager "BYOB," System were on a political mission against the war in Iraq, with Daron Malakian building a sonic army of guitars. The albums are not full of these songs though. The band delves into experimenting with time signatures on the track "Question!" and even scored one of their biggest hits with the slowburn "Lonely Day."

While these albums were triumphant successes for the band, the members began going in separate musical directions. Less than a year after Hypnotize's release, the band went on hiatus, expressing a desire to flex their artistic muscles without being tied to the other band members. The band has since reunited and tried to record new music only to have it be shelved, leaving this double album masterpiece as the band's creative finish line. Some of the band's greatest sonic moments that were too good to last long.
