2015 sees a big year for thrash metal originals Slayer with their upcoming album Repentless due for a September release. Snapshots of it reveal good signs for fans, particularly on the menacing pulverization of 'When The Stillness Comes'.

Though the song lacks the trademark thrash stamp of approval prevalent in most of their work, they have merely slowed it down to snail speed, highlighting what an impenetrable sonic force the band were and still are evidently. Something that is missing however is Slayer spearhead Jeff Hanneman. His untimely and unfortunate death in 2013 has left fellow shredder Kerry King with songwriting duties and it's evident that he can't replicate the classic sound but more importantly, how he is consciously steering away from even attempting it.

It still hits harder than anything known to man with low, mid-tempo guitar stabs and an admirable drum work out of headbanging goodness, proving to be the perfect battleground for Tom Araya to scream like his life depended on it, with cry's of "The last thing you see are my eyes!" on the devastating chorus. They sound revitalized and ready to take on the competition on this classic slab of heavy metal gold.

While it may prove divisive among Slayer fans, 'When The Stillness Comes' contains the same sharp riffs and war-cry like vocals that the band started out with.
