10 Best Pop Punk Albums Of 2016
1. Like Pacific - Distant Like You Asked
It's not uncommon for people to think that pop punk has withered and died since the mid-2000s, but the reality is that much of it has just shifted from the mainstream. There's still a huge amount of brilliant pop punk being made, and Like Pacific are proof of that fact. Distant Like You Asked is pop punk at its most finest.
The record was promoted by single Worthless Case, a song in typical pop punk fashion about heartbreak. Nevertheless there's a self-awareness to the lyrics which is refreshing, as the singer laments "you f*ck me up, it's nothing new".
Arguably the record's standout track is 22A, a melancholic lament about the death of a loved one, but that's just personal preference. At the end of the day, the entire album is fantastic, proof that pop punk is far, far from dead and still has an enormous amount to offer to eager listeners.
