10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 1990s

3. Enter Sandman - Metallica

Sometimes you can only truly assess something's worth many years after its release. If something endures for a long period of time, then it must be of high quality.

Well, it's been over thirty years since we first saw the video for Metallica's Enter Sandman, and we're still talking about it.

The lead single off their 1991 self-titled album, Enter Sandman and its video deal with the concept of nightmares.

A small boy is lying in bed, surrounded by a morbid dreamscape. Shots of the child sleeping are cut with images of the band playing, lightning, and the creepiest old man you'll see this side of the Phantasm franchise.

The video is kinda hard to watch sometimes; not because of its content, but just because the rapidly-flashing images are enough to give anyone a headache. It is relentless, much like the feeling of being trapped in a horrific nightmare.

The most effective horror stories are based on our simplest of fears. We all remember what it was like to have nightmares as a kid and this video exploits that brilliantly.

Also, the bit where the truck hits the kid's bed is unintentionally hilarious.
