10 Best Rock Songs For Working Out

1. Van Halen - Jump

Really, it's right in the song title. So just do what it says: jump!

Jump was the lead single from Van Halen's album 1984, with the song actually released in December 1983.

As far as songs to work out to, Jump actually has a bit of a connection to, well, hitting the gym. The tune is dedicated to Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a martial artist, karate black belt, and kickboxer. In an era before mixed martial arts and the UFC was a thing, Benny "The Jet" amassed a near-perfect record in active competition, officially going 49–1–1 (with another dozen or so unofficial fights, mostly wins, believed to have taken place).

Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth actually trained under Benny "The Jet," hence dedicating the song to him.

That martial arts backstory probably explains why Roth is seen throwing an elbow in the widely played music video for Jump, which was a hit on MTV back in the day. But hey, even if you can't get into that aspect of the song, the video makes a fun throwback workout track, what with Roth strutting around, jumping and doing high kicks.

Just stretch first. We don't want to be responsible for any groin pulls.
