10 Best Slash Guitar Solos You Haven't Heard
4. By The Sword - Slash
The self-titled Slash album is one of the most overlooked rock albums of the past decade. In lieu of the usual formula of Slash guesting with different artists, the guitarist used the opportunity to bring all of his buddies under one roof in a jam session for the ages. Though the genres fluctuate from one song to the next, "By the Sword" gets that down and dirty rock down to a tee.
Featuring Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother on vocals, this song feels like a hidden artifact from the golden age of rock and roll, long before even Slash arrived on the scene. Though the riff is fairly standard for a Slash tune, the long drawn-out nature of the solo is really what puts everything over the top, as he gets every emotion out of each note he plays.
Though many people may call out Slash for his more high-speed moments, a lot of people forget about the lyrical nature of his solos, and this is a prime example of a guitar break that you can actually sing.
For as many people love Guns N Roses, this song has the emotion and muscle of a Led Zeppelin tune, with Slash taking on the mantle of Jimmy Page without even moving his sunglasses.
