10 Biggest Band Blowups In Hard Rock

8. Joe Perry - Aerosmith

Aerosmith had been on a hot streak ever since their album Toys in the Attic hit the rock scene. From the strength of that one album, the band were able to create even more blues-flavored rock tunes from the minds of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Though these two have been known as one of rock's dynamic duos, that's not to say everything was smooth sailing.

Much of the animosity between Tyler and Perry comes down to the presence of Perry's commitments with his girlfriend. As Tyler puts it, every time the band would be ready to write or jam, Perry would be busy with his girlfriend rather than focusing on the music. As the band kept getting bigger, the disconnect between Perry and Tyler became more of an issue, which would often escalate into shouting matches backstage.

The whole thing came to a head at a show in Cleveland, where the band and their wives got into an all-out battle after the band had come offstage. This proved to be the last straw, with Perry quitting the band and pursuing a solo career. Though Perry would eventually return and create more classics with Aerosmith, the band learned a valuable lesson that day: never mix your professional life with your personal affairs.
