10 Christmas No 1's That Had Nothing To Do With Christmas

5. Reneé & Renato - Save Your Love

http://youtu.be/JqIbmu0ZO7E Year: 1982 Weeks at No.1: Four Everybody loved Save Your Love, right? Right? So just me then? And the 607,000 lunatics who bought the record. Some find it cheesy while others consider the blossoming romance totally endearing. Save Your Love started as a slow burner, entering the chart in October at no.54. Somehow, sales picked up at the start of the Christmas period and before long, radio stations were playing it non-stop. Reneé credits the success as being the only romantic song during a time where heavy rock music dominated the charts. Well, I say Reneé, but her real name is in fact Hilary Lester - a professional singer - who was paired with aspiring-tenor Renato Pagliari by the song writer Johnny Edward. For some unknown reason, the woman in the video is not Lester - when it came to shooting the music video, Lester (also an actress) was curiously replaced by a model. Lester wasn't hideously ugly and it wasn't as if the pair couldn't stand the sight of each other. After two follow-up flops, the vocal duo parted ways. Reneé went about a quiet private life and Renato continued to sing wherever he could: cruise ships, guest spots on TV and even his son's restaurant. Sadly, Renato died following surgery to a brain tumour in 2009, but his legacy will forever live on with this song.
