10 Classic Rock Acoustic Songs
6. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
As Pink Floyd reached the '70s, they had already been through enough struggles to last any other musicians' lifetime. Coming off of the massive success of Dark Side of the Moon, everyone was starting to get desensitized with the rock star lifestyle, while also trying to come to terms with losing their former bandmate Syd Barrett to his own mind. Looking to get back on common ground, Wish You Were Here is where all of the prog complexity comes back down to Earth.
Though the entire album Wish You Were Here was dedicated to Barrett, the title track is where you really get a sense of what the band had gone through. Set to a simple 12-string guitar, David Gilmour really pours his heart out to his fallen friend, having never had the chance to see him blossom into the creative monster that he was supposed to be.
For as personal a song as this is though, the idea of two friends drifting further apart from each other is something than any one of us can relate to, whether it's moving from one phase of life to another or just growing apart as the years go by. The memories may live in this song's melody, but it hits that much harder when you realize you can never truly go back.
