10 Classic Rock Bands That Went Disco

1. The Bee Gees

There's no real reason to think of the Bee Gees as anything but a disco band at this point. If you look at any pop culture from the last 30 years, anything disco related probably has one of the Gibbs' faces plastered right next to it, along with John Travolta strutting in Saturday Night Fever. Before any of the open shirts and gold medallions came out though, The Bee Gees were already some of the strongest songwriters in the world of rock.

The original iteration of the Bee Gees already had some impressive musical chops behind them, notching up many different hits with ballads like To Love Somebody and I Started a Joke. That was the early '70s, and the bubblegum side of their sound was going out of style pretty quickly. When the disco bug bit them though, they were already seasoned songwriters and didn't let the change in style swallow them whole.

If you go back and listen to songs like You Should Be Dancing and Tragedy, these are amazing pop songs that just so happen to have a disco beat behind them. They even managed to keep their slow game intact, with How Deep Is Your Love being one of the highlights of their collection of ballads. As the times were changing around them, one could say that the Bee Gees kept their career...staying alive, and if you've made it this far, you can punch this humble author at least once for making a pun like that.
