10 Classic Rock Songs That Were Written About Drugs

8. Geek Stink Breath - Green Day

For all of the tortured artists that came with the grunge wave, Green Day almost seemed like the bratty young brothers in the scene. Just a few years after the likes of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were lighting up the charts, it was a lot more refreshing to hear a band that sang about more adolescent topics and tapped into something more immature, even if some of the songs were heavy like Basket Case. Insomniac was a lot angrier than what we got on Dookie though, and Geek Stink Breath is about something much more than just needing a breath mint.

This was around the time that Billie Joe Armstrong had started to get hooked on substances, and this was the result of him describing a friend who had a problem with crystal meth. Since the effects of meth show in your gums, the meth head in question was having some pretty nasty situations, blowing off steam with drugs and letting all of his teeth erode the more he went down the rabbit hole.

You can even find the effects in action in the music video for the song, with Billie's friend showing up in the video at a dentist appointment, where he had to get all of his teeth pulled out. The draw of the white line might be enticing once you get hooked, but this video is proof enough for how gross it can get when you go down that road for too long.
