10 Clues My Chemical Romance Are Gearing Up To Release A New Album
2. Their New Logo Literally Spells Out 'MCR5'
One of the reasons My Chem has always stood above their peers in the cultural consciousness is the time and effort they spend in fine-tuning their iconography. While some bands prefer to maintain a specific house style, the logos and aesthetics that came with each new MCR ‘era’ generate as much discussion and inspiration as the music itself.
A vampire hanging upside down, two blood-splattered lovers reaching for a kiss, a solitary skeleton in a marching band uniform, a neon spider against a desert sky: these symbols are just as instantly recognisable as My Chemical Romance's tunes, and it seems as though they are creating an equally strong visual identity with their new logo.
While magick imagery has dominated the band’s promotional material since they announced their reunion, the original reunion announcement was accompanied by a brand new logo resplendent with new symbols in which the number ‘5’ is conspicuously present.
Fans will remember that ‘MCR5’ was the codename for the long-awaited successor to Danger Days, and the five-fingered hand right after the band’s initials in the expanded version of this new logo seems very on-the-nose. Accompanied with a prevalence of the Roman numeral ‘V’ (5) in the band’s announcements, many fans have taken this as confirmation that the band will indeed be releasing a new record.
Moreover, on the website the band's new logo has been given the filename 'Merlin', once again suggesting that MCR are reverting to the witchy themes of The Paper Kingdom. Could 'Merlin' be yet another new track name?
