10 Cover Songs That Make Absolutely No Sense
3. Faith - Limp Bizkit
The entire genre of nu metal tended to be fairly insular in terms of their sound. No matter how many genres they put under their umbrella from acts like hip hop and heavy metal, the core sound of acts like Korn and Fear Factory just tended to sound like the typical angsty hard rock that people would listen to to get over their problems at home. For as much as these guys might have needed to lighten up, please don't let them get funny like Limp Bizkit did on Faith.
Yes, you heard that right. The timeless pop track from George Michael himself was actually covered by Fred Durst and his band of merry gentlemen in the midst of their career boom that came with Nookie. From start to finish, it almost feels like Durst is wanting to make the song sound ugly, down to the iconic line "I gotta have faith" being screamed over the loudspeaker as loud droning chords plow into your skull.
For what it's worth, the instruments are pretty competently played from a technical perspective, although they're clearly just put into the wrong song, setting, and pretty much everything else to create this monstrosity. While this certainly has its place in the history of nu metal, you've entered full nu metal fanboy if you claim to like this version better than the original.
