10 Creepiest Paranormal Events In Rock Music
9. Iron Maiden's Demonic Car Accident
As metal started to gain some speed after its initial inception, Iron Maiden were the ones flying the flag for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Whereas other bands were flirting with the punk sounds rising from the underground, Maiden was the band you turned to when you needed music with a bit more muscle behind it. Even when playing some of the most hard-edged metal out there, not even Eddie could have saved the group from darker material.
When working on what would become Maiden's masterpiece, The Number of the Beast, producer Martin Birch managed to escape a near fatal car accident relatively unscathed. Though Birch was a bit shaken up by the event, his car was totaled in the process. While working in the studio, Birch had to pay off the damages for his car in the middle of the sessions, only to find out that the final bill came out to £666.
It would already be strange to have a bill that specific, but considering Birch had been working on an album mentioning the devil by name, he made the company boost the amount up to £667 to avoid any superstitious karma. Birch would go on to produce many more hard rock albums in his time, but he may have just had a demon looking out for him when he first got behind the wheel.
