10 Final Songs That Will Give You Chills
1. Lazarus - David Bowie
Since David Bowie was diagnosed with liver cancer years before his death in 2016, he had a million other things he could have been doing. If anyone else had been given that limited a time frame on this Earth, you'd probably want to see the world and enjoy your final days in peace. But Bowie wasn't just any other musician...and he was going to leave his fans with a sendoff for the ages.
Although the album Blackstar is all about Bowie's coming demise, the real gut punch comes on Lazarus, where you hear Bowie thinking about what's going to happen once he's gone. Hearing his voice at this stage might seem a bit surreal at this point, but from the opening line of "Look up here, I'm in Heaven," you're already bawling your eyes out.
And this isn't the bombastic sound of Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane either. This is Bowie trying on one more sonic costume by going into the jazz world and bringing an heir of sophistication for what very well may be his final hours in the studio. This is definitely a scary time for Bowie, but for the sound of this song, he's going to face death square in the face with his head held high. Even though we all are going to have to shuffle off this mortal coil eventually, here's hoping that we tackle it with the same bravery that the Starman did.
