10 Great Collaborations That Combined Different Genres
2. Numb/Encore
Arguably the pinnacle of rap and rock coming together, the 2004 album Collision Course consisted of tracks from rock/nu-metal standouts Linkin Park and the legendary rapper Jay-Z. Following the success of Hybrid Theory and Meteora, Linkin Park were riding high and this collaboration saw them ascend the mainstream totem pole further than any other band at the time.
Since the rapping of Mike Shinoda has always been an integral part of the band's sound, implementing the lyrics and flow of an artist as well-respected as Jay-Z worked flawlessly. The choice for this entry could have just as easily been the mashup of Big Pimpin' with Papercut or even 99 Problems worked into a combination of Points Of Authority and One Step Closer.
There is not a single weak track here - every one sounds as though it was written in this format and not constructed after the fact. The skill of Mr Hahn in helping to mix these tracks together is impressive from every imaginable standpoint and the only thing more jaw dropping than listening to the album is hearing the live performances.
Fans of rap, Jay-Z, Linkin Park or just of good music would do well to listen to this album.
