10 Greatest Comeback Albums In Rock Music History
2. Back in Black - AC/DC
As the '70s started to turn a corner, rock and roll was starting to get a lot nastier. In the wake of bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin breaking down the barriers of what constituted heavy music, it looked like AC/DC was going to be the ones bringing dirty rock and roll to the masses on Highway to Hell. After one fateful night of heavy drinking though, everything grinded to a halt with the death of Bon Scott.
Since Bon was the mouthpiece of the band and the signature wild man, it felt like there was no one who was going to be able to replace him. Choosing to soldier on instead, Angus Young decided to quit moping and make the next record a tribute to Bon's memory, with fellow squealer Brian Johnson in tow. And as you do, it becomes one of the biggest selling rock albums of all time.
Matched with the production expertise of Mutt Lange, every one of these songs became a contender for one of the greatest tracks in AC/DC's canon, from the wild ride of You Shook Me All Night Long to the somber opening of the album on Hells Bells. You have to remember this was never meant to be an album to replace Bon with. Though he might not have been here in the flesh, the spirit of Bon Scott is coated throughout this entire record.
