10 Greatest Final Rock Music Albums Of The 2000s

1. Icky Thump - The White Stripes

Considering how important and popular they still are today, it's mad to think that The White Stripes were only a recording act for eight years.

From 1999 to 2007, the band put out six albums which won the hearts and minds of millions of people around the world, before they faded into the ether, never to be seen again. Sure, Jack White has gone on to become a solo megastar, but Meg? Where is she? Genuinely.

Even if Meg never decides to return to music, her body of work is more than enough, especially her final release with the band in '07. Icky Thump took the outfit back to their garagey, punky roots, but with a bit of White Stripes spice thrown in for good measure. For example, there's a song with bagpipes on it.

Icky Thump doesn't feel like a final album; it feels like a duo firmly in their stride, confident and assured that they have a long career ahead of them. Whilst this wasn't meant to be, it still serves as a perfect climax for a band who, in many ways, defined rock music in the noughties.
