10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Rock Performances
6. Korn
Korn were one of the bands who spearheaded the nu-metal movement in the mid-to-late '90s, after they landed with their debut album in 1994. The sound on the album was unique and unheard of at the time. Heavy with the guitars drop-tuned as low as they go, but with a hint of melody and the tortured vocal prowess of enigmatic frontman Jonathan Davis.
As their career progressed, their sound would incorporate the influence of hip-hop and a definite '80s feel with shades of Depeche Mode and The Cure in Davis’ voice. By 2006, Korn were the perfect band for MTV Unplugged, and their acoustic set provided a sound their fans had never experienced before.
The band were joined for this set by guests, including Amy Lee from Evanescence and also Robert Smith and Simon Gallup of The Cure, with Smith’s vocal duel with Davis sounding beautifully melancholic.
