10 Greatest Rock Music Cover Songs Of The 2010s
7. Heroes - Motörhead
Everyone covers Heroes by David Bowie. It’s got to be one of, if not his most replicated tracks, as everyone from buskers on street corners to big-time stars have given this soppy ballad promoting the human spirit a go.
This phenomenon only grew following Bowie’s death in 2016, and one of the bands who jumped on this trend were Motörhead. They put out a version of the song as part of an album called Under Cover, which released in 2017 and contained cover versions of songs from the likes of Sex Pistols, The Rolling Stones, and The Thin White Duke.
The song is, well, it’s Motörhead doing Heroes. It sounds exactly like how Bowie would have played the song if he was a gruff-sounding alcoholic with mutton chops. It’s loud, it’s thrashing, it’s got a great solo, and it’s a lot of fun.
What makes this song even sweeter is that it was a piece of new material released two years after Lemmy’s death. Bowie and Lemmy died within 13 days of each other and this song serves as a fitting tribute to both of these mad geniuses.
