10 Greatest Rock Music One Hit Wonders

8. Mississippi Queen - Mountain

And now we move on to the ancient realm of the one hit wonders of rock. It almost seems unfair to judge the one hit wonders that came out of the '60s revolution, since most of them are known to be centered more on albums than any breakthrough hit single. If there was any band from this decade that was known for just one song though, it would have to be Mountain.

Being descendants of the world of blues rock, Mississippi Queen is still one of the most unstoppable riffs of the early '70s, as Leslie West delivers a riff as large as he was. Seriously, this man had the kind of harsh physique that would have put Java the Hut to shame. He could always play his ass off though, even giving Mountain a chance to open at Woodstock, which made the song go into the stratosphere after that.

As much as Mountain is just known for their one hit, it has become one of the most enduring songs of the early days of hard rock, inspiring many kids to pick up guitars and even getting covered by people like Ozzy Osbourne years after the fact. Turns out when you do something that perfect on your first try, sometimes one is all you need to get you into the conversation of the greatest of all time.
