10 Greatest Sequel Songs In Rock Music History
2. Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 - Pink Floyd
When you have a project that is as grand as the Wall, you're going to need some bulletproof concept to hold everything together. As Roger Waters attempted to dissect little pieces of his own life and put them into the character of Pink, you can feel him getting more isolated as the tracks play on. Once he starts to close himself off from society though, that's when we land on one of the band's greatest hits.
After already establishing the bitter home life that Pink has at the start of the show, Part 2 is where we get to see just how much worse it is at school, with teachers being ruthless with their students and getting children more and more desensitized to the world around them. While any sane human being would crack under the pressure, Pink does chalks up another brick, until he's eventually completely closed off from society halfway through the rock opera.
This does lean into the opera side of the spectrum as well, with the main riff of this song eventually turning up at different points on the record, like being heard in the background during the Trial as the judge comes out to evaluate Pink's behavior. It might be a little bit harsh to take in all at once, but we all know a thing or two about loneliness, and this song is the first time when Pink actually starts to embrace his isolation.
