10 Hated Rock Albums That Are A Lot Better Than You Remember
1. Invisible Touch - Genesis
And here we have it...the album that officially destroyed Genesis. The one moment where all of the prog rock fans had to accept that their favorite band had sold out. While Invisible Touch seems to fit that bill in more ways than one, it's actually got a lot more upsides than you would probably expect.
A lot of this rancor is brought Phil Collins's way, who has been heralded as the destroyer of the band ever since he started to sing lead vocals. However, there's still a lot of fun to be had with this record if you have a little tolerance for pop. Though songs like the title track are pretty much what you'd expect from this iteration of the group, songs like Tonight Tonight Tonight and Land of Confusion sound like the guys getting dirtier, with the latter sounding almost cinematic in scope.
Hell, they even throw it back to their prog rock roots on the back half, with songs like Domino being one of the episodic cuts that we haven't seen since something like Duke. Though this is definitely a watered-down version of Genesis, it might just be the kind of album that gets pop listeners interested in the proggier side of the spectrum. This album is certainly not the most substantial Genesis record of the bunch, but in terms in some decent '80s fun, you could argue they Patrick Bateman's musical taste wasn't all that bad.
