10 Legendary Music Artists That Never Got Better Than Their Debut Record

8. Arctic Monkeys

You only get to make your first album once, so you'd better make a good impression. Even though many artists have honed their craft on the later releases they would put out, there wasn't time to mess around in the '00s, with one new garage rock outfit popping up left and right. Through their music being shared on the Internet though, Arctic Monkeys' debut went off like a timebomb when it actually hit shelves.

After making their name off of a handful of EPs, Whatever People Say I Am... was a nice switch up from the usual garage rock formula, taking you on a journey through English nightlife with Alex Turner by your side. From one song to the next, you can really hear them trying to write riffs that could tear down the walls of any club they played in, with I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor working just as well blaring out of a dingy club as it did when the band headlined Glastonbury for the first time.

With age comes experience though, and the rest of the band's output tends to fall into its own unique groove, from going to desert rock on Humbug to old school fashion on AM to whatever the hell they were trying to do on Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Then again, Arctic Monkeys haven't had any interest in revisiting the old days, always looking to push their sound that much forward with every release. The following records may still be nice slices of rock, but they never sounded hungrier than they were on this record.
