10 Love Songs That Are Actually Incredibly Dark

2. You've Got Her In Your Pocket - The White Stripes

One of the mission statements when Jack White was creating the White Stripes was to bring things back down to basics. From the way that they play to the lyrics that they talk about, these are the kind of songs that brought it back to the stone age of rock and roll, almost having a child like spirit to the way that Jack and Meg worked off of each other. Even with puppy love though, there's a fine line between infatuation and something a lot more dangerous.

If you look at it just on the surface, Jack is really wearing his heart on his sleeve in this song, as he talks about anything that he will do for his lover to make sure that he doesn't leave his side. Throughout most of the verses, he practically sounds like he's on the verge of tears, almost scared of saying the wrong thing and watching her walk right out the door with all of her things. The fatal flaw comes in that title though, with Jack saying that he wants to keep her in his pocket where there's no way out.

When you see the girl's perspective, hearing him talk about how this little space in his pocket is home sweet home isn't really the ideal situation to be in. From the language here, Jack sounds more like he's keeping this woman as a hostage rather than a lover, and she should probably be doing everything she can to get as far away from him as she possibly can.
