10 Masterpiece Albums From Supposedly "Terrible" Bands

The Album

It would take album number five for Metallica to get the acclaim they felt they deserved. A marked departure from their previous, hard-thrashing efforts, this perfect collection of songs had melody as its back bone and crunching riffs and wailing vocals as its muscular exterior.

Owing more to the then raging grunge phase of that era, the album is an absolute joy. Opener 'Enter Sandman' is a rock radio staple, and remains the kind of monster Metallica always threatened to unleash, but its depthful numbers such as 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'The Unforgiven' that show a band that could pen a epic track or two.

Disappointingly, James Hetfield and co would follow this up in 1996 with Load, which saw the band return to their typically uninspired thrash roots and to date the band continue to bore us with this style. They've got the fanbase, for sure, but with the large majority of their music sounding the same, one can't help but agree Metallica are one of music's most overrated bands.

Best Track

Showing just the right amount of thrash and hard rock style, 'Sad But True' is the band at its very peak. This one is best played at LOUD.
