One of the indisputable greatest metal bands of all time, Slayer’s legacy is ingrained not just in their own genre but the entirety of pop-culture. Following up that classic would be tricky for most, but Slayer on South of Heaven (1988) managed to combine their splattered thrash with a slower Sabbath style grind to maintain unadulterated heaviness. Then Seasons in the Abyss (1990) came and built on this as the band found their groove and played it to perfection.
