10 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (From Great Bands)
7. Madness - Muse
Muse were on top of the world at the end of the 2000's. With one record after the next being a bold new step in their sound, 2009's The Resistance had been the peak of their more operatic hard rock side, with traces of Queen laced into the vocal delivery. It seemed that they could do no wrong, but the opening single for 2011's The 2nd Law left many fans bracing for impact.
Given the new dubstep trend that was blowing up, the more electronic foundation of "Madness" seemed like a radical departure from the band known for sprawling rock epics. While the impressive vocals and amazing guitar solo was still on display, the crux of the tune seemed to be centered around the bass drops more than the organic instrumentation.
It didn't help matters when the band's later output showed even more experimental electronic tunes, which left diehard fans ready to pounce. Once we got the record, the old Muse magic was still there, but that didn't stop the fanbase from tearing into "Madness" any chance they could. The 2nd Law was far from being a disappointment by Muse's usual standard, but this song was not what most people wanted out of the kings of space rock.
