10 Most Un-Metal Songs By Major Metal Artists
9. The Messenger - Linkin Park
No other metal album has really divided a fanbase quite like Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns. Going in a much more electronic direction than other nu metal acts, this conceptual tale of nuclear war is either the best LP album ever or a colossal failure depending on who you ask. While the electronic moments certainly have their place, The Messenger is where you take every single adornment away.
Compared to the massive amount of overdubs you'd find on albums like Meteora and Hybrid Theory, this song is just Chester Bennington's voice with a guitar. Connecting into the story of the album, this feels like a ray of hope through the clouds of darkness, with Chester assuring us that we will move on to a new day and be able to carry on again. That kind of mentality almost feels anti-metal in places, but the way he's singing makes it feel all the more sincere regardless.
Given the mass amount of chaos that you had to sift through on songs like the Catalyst and Wretches and Kings, this feels like a good way to wrap things up on the best possible note you could. Even though this is far from Linkin Park's finest hour, it's still a solid entry that's well worth your time if you're feeling curious.
