10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs

5. FML

FML brings together elements that, on paper, should not work together. Percussionless for almost the first two minutes, the song brings together The Weeknd, Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw and a sample of the obscure English punk band Section 25. Kanye is known for bringing unconventional and disparate elements together and making something cohesive, and this song is no exception.

Kanye starts off by professing his love and loyalty for his family, and how deeply he cares for them. He also manages to keep himself in check by saying "I can't jeopardise this for one of these h**s" before The Weeknd provides the haunting and sparse chorus.

After this, the beat kicks in as Kanye begins to become more manic and egotistical. The second half of the song has Kanye singing over the Section 25 sample in a strained and desperate manner, repeating "they don't wanna see me love you", referencing those who have criticised his relationship with Kim Kardashian. Clearly frustrated with why the public would take issue with him simply being in love with someone, the manic nature of the second half of the song makes complete sense.

The Life of Pablo was released at a time of particular volatility in Kanye's career, and FML is one of the tracks that truly captures this essence.
