10 Most Underrated Paul McCartney Songs
8. Despite Repeated Warnings - Egypt Station
You can't really count on music legends to come up with aces every time they go into the studio. Even if a new album is on the horizon, there's no reason to expect that Paul McCartney is going to grace us with another version of Abbey Road all over again. Then again, songs like Despite Repeated Warnings show that you should never count out these legends either.
On the whole, Egypt Station is a great addition to McCartney's later period, showing that he's able to adapt with the times and incorporate his trademark optimism into the modern pop scene. Though there are a lot of traditional peace-and-love themed tunes laced throughout the album, this penultimate track is where we get to see Macca's political tongue out in full force. Always a great storyteller, we see McCartney telling a story of a ship on a crash course, as the captain refuses to heed any of the warnings from his crew.
Though it was never overtly said, it's hard not to look at this as an homage to Donald Trump, right down to Paul talking about this captain having his own agenda and not going along with the program. For a man who has been known for his more easygoing behavior throughout his career, it's nice to see that even in his old age, Macca isn't afraid to speak his mind on the state of the world.
