10 Most Underrated Paul McCartney Songs
2. Monkberry Moon Delight - RAM
There's been a bit of a divided opinion on McCartney's rustic album RAM ever since it was released in the early '70s. Being the first proper artistic statement since his Beatle years, the country tinged sounds of this album did end up turning some fans off who preferred the classic Paul sound. Say what you want to about RAM as a whole, it certainly is unique for what it is, with Monkberry Moon Delight being the weirdest song Paul ever wrote.
From the moment the track starts, it almost feels like you've been transported into some warped circus, with a rolling guitar line that never really resolves quite like it should. If you think that's not weird enough, just wait until you get to Paul's vocal, whose gruffness has never really been equaled anywhere else in his solo career.
Granted, the lyrics don't really mean much outside of nonsense, but this track is more about the sound that it's able to create rather than the actual wisdom it's supposed to impart. And even with all of the backlash that she gets over the years, the addition of Linda McCartney actually really works here, with her background vocals gelling just right next to Macca's howls. While this might not be as earth-shattering as something like Let it Be or Yesterday, leave it to Paul McCartney to take what would have been considered trash and make it pretty compelling.
