10 Overly Hated Musicians In Rock History

1. Courtney Love - Hole

Once the grunge revolution fell, people were ready to place blame on Courtney Love without even hearing a note of her music.

Since she was the outlandish wife of Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain, Love quickly became the Yoko Ono of her generation, dividing both the band her husband had birthed and the music community at large for driving him to commit suicide. If you saw the real Courtney though, things weren't always that black and white.

Compared to some of the other riot grrl acts coming down the pipeline around the same time, Love's work with Hole was a lot better than you probably remember. Across albums like Live Through This, Love has a commanding vocal presence and a tight grip on the tropes of her genre to give contemporaries like L7 a run for their money in the process.

Even so, the rock community was having absolutely none of it, going so far as to accuse Love of making her masterwork with the help of her husband.

Though Love's star power has certainly turned towards celebrity flameout than thriving rock star these days, the work that she made in her prime is still some of the most feral rock and roll to come from the punkier side of the spectrum.

Courtney Love might not be the undiscovered genius of the '90s, but she certainly deserves more than being the blood-sucking leech reputation that she has followed her around for decades now.
