10 Perfect Power Pop Albums With No Bad Songs

1. Weezer - Weezer

No one was really aching for power pop that much once the grunge wave came in and hit. The past few years had all been about rock and roll getting too close to pop music, so it was only natural for us to gravitate to something that was willing to get a little bit more aggro from time to time. Since alternative music was built for the outsiders though, Weezer served up the biggest Revenge of the Nerds scenario possible on their self titled Blue Album.

Being produced by the Cars' frontman Ric Ocasek, every single song on this album has an equal footing for some of the greatest pop songs of the time. Coming after the tragic death of Kurt Cobain, this is the kind of carefree music that a lot of people were clamoring for, with songs like Buddy Holly and My Name Is Jonas quickly replacing the cycle of bands like Bush and Stone Temple Pilots on the radio.

This album isn't afraid to have a heart either though, with Say It Ain't So being a sad story of generational alcoholism running through a family or when Rivers Cuomo makes the dorktastic song In the Garage about everything that he has sitting around his room. While hair metal may have been for the jocks and grunge may have been for the tortured souls, this was the kind of music for the little guy and was proud of it. You may be just fine sitting in the garage for the rest of your life Weezer, but if the tunes still hit like this, you can play your stupid songs for as long as you want to.
