10 Perfect Rock Songs That Divided Rock Bands
3. In My Life - The Beatles
If you have a division in your ranks in the studio, it usually comes down to not liking any particular song. Since this is a track that you never thought was all that good to begin with, imagine having to hear it on repeat nonstop for the next few weeks. As it turns out though, In My Life by the Beatles actually divided the main songwriters in the exact opposite direction.
Being one of the most celebrated songs in the group's catalog, most of the disagreements about this song has come down to the fact that John Lennon and Paul McCartney can't decide who wrote what. Although John Lennon had mentioned time and time again that this was his song through and through, Macca claims that what John came in with was a sketch, and that he had started to finish it up by the time it was actually recorded.
Even still, there doesn't seem to be any clear answer as to who actually wrote which section, since most of the archives are just run throughs of the song. Then again, that's the beauty that comes with the Beatles' songwriting. Sometimes you'll end up writing something so good together that both of you want to have sole credit for it.
