10 Pop Songs That Are Actually Incredibly Dark

9. MMMBop - Hanson

Okay, but surely a band like Hanson is going to give people some levity, right? In the age of bands like Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots tearing up the charts, this was about as teeny bopper as they come, with legitimate children filling out the band and a chorus that's literally nothing but nonsense. If you look at what's going on in the rest of the song, it might be for the best that that one chorus hook is just a bunch of gibberish.

When all of the public stopped making jokes about how the guys in Hanson looked like girls, the actual song that drove them to fame was a lot more deep than most people expected. Far from the songs about young love and cutesy topics, half of this track is almost about philosophy, talking about how all of the relationships that you have aren't going to be there forever. If you look at the entire first verse, the message is basically about how you're not going to have that many people to talk to, and after you go through the hardships of life, they're all already gone.

So what's tying this all together? Just a big bunch of MMMBop and random na nas and doo doos to hit the chorus home. Even though this is far from the most intellectual song in the world, this was still something a lot more deep than what you expected out of kids who were featured in the likes of Tiger Beat magazine. Hanson had something to say, but they don't have the answers yet so we'll have to settle for that chorus.
