10 Popular Artists You Didn't Know Released Music In 2019
1. Mike Posner
The Cooler Than Me singer was once thought to be a one-hit wonder in 2010, but then shocked the world with his smash-hit I Took A Pill In Ibiza. Coming up to five years after the original release of that song, Posner could not maintain the momentum for his releases this year.
His third studio album released all the way back in January, a soft concept album about dealing with loss. Posner has lost his father in recent years, and also his friend Swedish DJ Avicii.
A Real Good Kid “is meant to be listened to without texting, without emailing or outside distraction” proclaims Posner in the ASMR-borderline spoken word opener, but there in lies the issue.
Pop artists in the streaming era do not make concept albums you should listen to all the way through, they make song collections with standalone tracks that can sit in playlists. This album was never going to be successful, but this album is okay with that.
A Real Good Kid is a personal album, released for Posner’s mental state that is kindly shared with his fans. For example, Move On is a track of acceptance supported by an African-esque beat. How It’s Supposed to be represents closure.
We can believe Posner's emotional transformation though, as he has moved on releasing a new mixtape in October, even if again, lacking much success.
To top his bad luck off, Posner was bitten by a rattlesnake in August during a soul-searching national walk from New Jersey to California.
Tough break.
