10 Punk Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row
9. Against Me!
Gainesville’s best.
Against Me! have been one of the most brilliant, inspiring and important punk bands of a generation. Starting as anarchist folk punk legends, the band became ostracised for ‘selling out’ and turned to writing life-affirming yet attitude-filled ragers. Technically their runs begin with 2002s Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose but they got so good that this 2002 dingy, low-fi, dark folk punk masterpiece doesn’t even make the cut. So we start with 2003s Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy leading on to 2005's Searching for a Former Clarity, both loose, weird, poetic masterclasses in punk writing.
Then came the band's perfect breakthrough record New Wave (2007) which features as much underground rollicking punk as it does enormous pop choruses. This formula continued onto two more extremely unique and massive albums in 2010s White Crosses and 2014s Transgender Dysphoria Blues. The former is pure radio rock but honest and the latter chronicles frontwoman Laura Jane Grace coming to terms with her own gender.
No matter how maligned the band are for selling out, some things never change with Against Me!, they have always been honest, provoking and a hell of a lot of fun.
