10 Punk Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row

8. Hüsker Dü

This godly trio of Bob Mould, Grant Hart and Greg Norton are as much to thank for changing the direction of rock music as the Pixies or Nirvana. Starting off as post-punk, the band provided the template for punk that would lead into the 1990s and y’know… start off grunge.

The band themselves strove to continuously be more powerful and explore both psychedelia and hardcore. The truth is, the alternative punk bands of the late 80s to early 90s owe so much to Hüsker Dü and all they did for underground music.

Hüsker Dü’s five album streak comes in the form of Zen Arcade (1984), New Day Rising (1985), Flip Your Wig (1985), Candy Apple Grey (1986), Warehouse: Songs and Stories (1987) - yeah that’s an insane run of one album a year.

The band started very much reflecting their hardcore roots, created a load of incredible records and were never fearful of venturing into pop music. They were an incredible force of nature and the product of three musicians with vitally different approaches to punk which somehow wrapped into perfection.

Where to start with Hüsker Dü? Try out 1984s Zen Arcade, you’re welcome.
